I based the colour scheme for this miniature on the art for the card. You may recognise it from issue #90 of White Dwarf. It is a pretty important piece to me, so wanted to show it some love.

Dark Skin

  1. Basecoat with 3:1 Gorthor Brown and Wild Rider Red .
  2. Add general shading with some thin Doombull Brown .
  3. Enhance the shading in deep parts and in eye sockets with 1:1 Doombull Brown and a little Black .
  4. Mix a little Ushabti Bone into your basecoat mix, then apply highlights. Repeat this step, as many times as needed, adding more Ushabti Bone to the mix and highlighting more selectively.
  5. Finish with a few specular highlights of pure Ushabti Bone , where needed.

White Beard

  1. Basecoat with 1:2 Corax White and White .
  2. Wash with some very thin 2:1 Rakarth Flesh and Grey Seer .
  3. Shade selectively with an equal parts mix of Stormvermin Fur and Gorthor Brown .
  4. Overbrush with White , picking out raised details. I did this a couple of times, being more selective with the second pass.

Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Doombull Brown .
  2. Add some general shading with thin Khorne Red .
  3. Highlight with 1:1 Doombull Brown and Zamesi Desert .
  4. Now highlight more selectively with Zamesi Desert .
  5. Mix some White into your Zamesi Desert and add very small/specular highlights.

Dark Leather

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Dryad Bark and Black .
  2. Shade with Black . Just shade recesses and try to make the lines thin.
  3. Highlight with Dryad Bark .
  4. Add fine highlights of Stormvermin Fur .
  5. Selectively highlight with 1:1 Stormvermin Fur and Deepkin Flesh .
  6. Finish with specular highlights of Deepkin Flesh .

Dark Brown Leather

  1. Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
  2. Glaze Mournfang Brown towards edges.
  3. Add chunky highlights of Skrag Brown .
  4. Mix the Skrag Brown 1:1 with Ushabti Bone , then apply fine highlights to edges.
  5. Selectively highlight with Ushabti Bone .
  6. Add some White to your Ushabti Bone and finish the leather with some very small/specular highlights on corners.

Wood

  1. Basecoat with Thondia Brown .
  2. Shade with Rhinox Hide .
  3. Mix Thondia Brown 2:1 with Steel Legion Drab , then add chunky highlights to the wood.
  4. Mix some Administratum Grey into the above paint, then highlight more selectively.
  5. Add more Administratum Grey to the mix and add some final small highlights.

Gold

  1. Basecoat with Retributor Armour .
  2. Wash with Reikland Fleshshade .
  3. Mix a little Silver RLM01 Metallic into your Retributor Armour , then add general highlights and highlights to all hard edges.
  4. Increase the amount of Silver RLM01 Metallic in the mix, so it is a very pale gold. Now selectively highlight.
  5. Finish with specular highlights of Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Steel

  1. Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
  2. Wash with Nuln Oil . I also glazed some Agrax Earthshade over the filigree to make it look dirtier.
  3. Highlight with Ironbreaker .
  4. Add edge highlights with Silver RLM01 Metallic .

For the chainmail, I used the same silver paints, but simply applied them as overbrushing to the raised details, after a Black basecoat.
