Golden Camel
- Basecoat with Zamesi Desert .
- Drybrush with Zandri Dust . Go quite heavy and pick out all accessible raised portions.
- Drybrush more selectively with Ushabti Bone , enhancing the shapes picked out in the last stage even more.
- Shade with a 1:1 mix of Aggaros Dunes and Contrast Medium . I shaded mine with a mix of glazes and more traditional recess shading.
- If you need to further define any points, I would recommend selectively shading deep recesses with a little thinned Rhinox Hide .
- With everything else in place, now is a good time to make specific details pop. I did this with selective highlights of Screaming Skull and specular Wraithbone highlights.
Riders Skin
- Basecoat with1:1 Cadian Fleshtone and Mournfang Brown .
- Mix some of the basecoat 1:1 with more Mournfang Brown and carefully shade the skin. I thinned this paint with Lahmian Medium , to make it easier to work with.
- Mix the above paint 1:1 with Rhinox Hide , and further define deep recesses. I stuck to shading eye sockets and where the skin met other materials at this stage.
- Mix the basecolour with some Ushabti Bone and apply highlights. If you want a ratio, this will be about 1:3.
- Increase the amount of Ushabti Bone in the mix, until it is roughly 1:1 with the basecolour. Now selectively highlight the skin, focusing on knuckles and protruding elements.
- Mix even more Ushabti Bone in to the base mix until there is substantially more than the original basecolour and add some final highlights.
Black Hair
The amoun of hair visible/accessible in this kit varies greatly, but I basecoat with Black . Then mixed Blue Horror into the Black highlighting raised details. i then repeated as necessary, highlighting more selectively as the amount of Blue Horror increased.
Blue Cloth
- Basecoat with 3:1 Dark Reaper and Administratum Grey .
- Add some general shading with thinned Dark Reaper . I kept the paint thin and used a mix of glazes and traditional recess shading.
- Mix a little Abaddon Black into your Dark Reaper and further define deep recesses.
- Basecoat: Dark Reaper & Administratum Grey 1:3
Recess Shade: Dark Reaper
Layer Highlight: Base Mix & White Scar 2:1
Layer Highlight: Base Mix & White Scar 1:1
Dark Brown Leather
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Shade deep recesses with some thin Abaddon Black .
- Add chunky highlights of Doombull Brown .
- Add fine highlights of Mournfang Brown .
- Selectively highlight with XV-88 .
- Mix some White into the XV-88 and finish with specular highlights.
Off-White Cloth
- Basecoat with 2:1 Wraithbone and Rakarth Flesh .
- Soft shade with some thin Karak Stone . Glaze over fine details and run generously into the more defined ones.
- Shade well defined recesses with thin lines of XV-88 .
- On particuarly deep recesses and where the cloth meets other materials, apply a fine line of 1:1 XV-88 and Rhinox Hide .
- Pick out edges and upward facing sections with highlights of Wraithbone .
- Mix your Wraithbone 1:1 with White and apply finer/more selective highlights.
- Finish with selective White highlights.
Canvas Backpack
- Basecoat with Steel Legion Drab .
- Drybrush with some Karak Stone focusing on areas where the pack bulges.
- Further enhance the bulges with another more selective drybrush of 1:1 Karak Stone and Wraithbone .
- Shade recesses with some thin 1:1 Steel Legion Drab and Rhinox Hide .
- Run thin lines of pure Rhinox Hide into deep recesses.
- Finish with dots and scratches of pure Wraithbone within the previous drybrushing to really accentuate the bulges.
The cords that hold the pack togther will have picked up quite a lot of highlights as a result of the drybrushing. To set them apart from the pack, I carrefully glazed them with Morghast Bone , pulling my brush towards where the highlight would be strongest and avoiding the well defines recesses. I then selectively highlighted them further by mixing some White into the Morghast Bone and highlighting them in a couple of extra passes.
Red Cloth
- Basecoat with Word Bearers Red .
- Shade with a thin mix of 1:1 Word Bearers Red and Abaddon Black .
- Glaze some highlights on folds and exposed areas with 1:1 Word Bearers Red and Wild Rider Red .
- Highlight with Jokaero Orange .
- Highlight more selectively with Bestigor Flesh .
- Mix some White into the Bestigor Flesh and finish with specular highlights on points.
Jade Cloth
- Basecoat with 1:1 Sons of Horus Green and Sybarite Green .
- Wash with some thinned Incubi Darkness .
- Highlight raised details with 1:1 Sybarite Green and Baharroth Blue .
- Mix some White into the previous mix and highlight more selectively.
- Increase the amount of White in the mix and finish with some specular highlights.
Steel
- Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
- Wash with Nuln Oil . Adding glazes of Agrax Earthshade towards deep recesses, and where more interest is needed.
- Highlight with mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into the Leadbelcher and highlight.
- Finish with some small Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights.
Tan Camel
- Basecoat with Baneblade Brown .
- Drybrush with Karak Stone . Go quite heavy and pick out all accessible raised portions.
- Drybrush more selectively with Screaming Skull , enhancing the shapes picked out in the last stage even more.
- Shade with a 1:1 mix of Aggaros Dunes and Contrast Medium . I shaded mine with a mix of glazes and more traditional recess shading.
- Once I was done with the above, I thinned some Cygor Brown in a similar way. With this darker brown, I further defined deep recesses with a fine line.
- With everything else in place, now is a good time to make specific details pop. I did this with selective highlights of Pallid Wych Flesh and specular White highlights.
Red-Brown Cloth
- Basecoat with Doombull Brown .
- Soft shade with 2:1 Khorne Red and Abaddon Black .
- Shade the deepest recesses more selectively, using a darker mix of 1:2 Khorne Red and Abaddon Black .
- Highlight exposed areas with 1:1 Doombull Brown and Zamesi Desert .
- Now add fine highlights with Zamesi Desert .
- Mix a little White into your Zamesi Desert and highlight more selectively.
- Increase the amount of White in the mox, so it is now roughly 1:1 with the Zamesi Desert and finish with a few specular highlights.
Cream Cloth
- Basecoat with Ushabti Bone .
- Wash with Seraphim Sepia .
- Define deep recesses with some thin Rhinox Hide .
- Re-establish Ushabti Bone on raised details where needed.
- Edge highlight with Screaming Skull .
- Finish with a few small White highlights.
Beige Cloth
- Basecoat with Karak Stone .
- Shade with some glazes of Steel Legion Drab .
- Define deep recesses with thin lines of Rhinox Hide .
- Mix some White into your Karak Stone and edge highlight.
- Finish with very small/specular highlights of pure White .
White Cloth
- Basecoat with 1:1 Celestra Grey and White .
- Basecoat: Celestra Grey & White 1:1
Shade: Progressively add Dark Reaper to the base mix until desired shade.
Highlight: Add White to base mix
Highlight: White
Green Cloth
- Basecoat with Elysian Green .
- Basecoat: Elysian Green
Soft Shade: Deathworld Forest
Deep Shade: Deathworld Forest & Black
Highlight: Elysian Green & Ogryn Camo
Highlight: Ogryn Camo
Red Trim
- Basecoat: Doombull / Khorne / Black 1:1:1 (use mix)
Shade: Black
Highlight: Khorne Red
Highlight: Add Deepkin to previous step
Wood
- Basecoat with 1:1 Dryad Bark & Mournfang Brown .
- Run some thin Dryad Bark into deep recesses.
- Apply chunky highlights with a 1:1 mix of the base colour & Karak Stone .
- Now apply fine highlights with Karak Stone .
- Finish with selective highlights of 1:1 Karak Stone & Wraithbone .
