This is a starting point for a Blood Angels.
Red Armor
There are many ways to do the red armor of the Blood Angels, my favorite one is a variant from the great Youtube tutorial by InfernalBrush (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3AdglgMBO4). Go check that out for a great tutorial on Blood Angels. Red is a lot of fun to paint, since we get to go a little purple-ish in the shadows, and towards orange in the highlights!
- Base in a 1:1 mix of Mephiston Red and Evil Sunz Scarlet . If you plan on doing a lot of angels, I recommend buying one extra pot of each and dump them into a bigger pot to avoid having to do the mix all the time.
- Recess shade using Khorne Red , you can also glaze lower parts of panels using this color.
- Deep recess shade using Gal Vorbak Red . InfernalBrush uses a mix of Khorne Red and Incubi Darkness . But I think the Gal Vorbak Red is close enough.
- Glaze top parts and top facing panels using Evil Sunz Scarlet
- Chunky highlight using Wild Rider Red
- Edge highlight using Fire Dragon Bright
- Spot highlight in corners sharpest edges using Ungor Flesh
Yellow panels
Use this for e.g. kneepads, or close combat helmets.
- Base in Averland Sunset , a lot of coats needed, like 3.
- Base in Yriel Yellow , a lot of coats needed, like 3.
- Recess shade using Skrag Brown , for really deep recesses, use Doombull Brown . (Can skip this for e.g. kneepads)
- Chunky highlight using Flash Gitz Yellow
- Edge highlight with Dorn Yellow or e.g. Ice Yellow
Green lenses
- Base in Caliban Green
- Highlight with Warpstone Glow
- Fine highlight with Moot Green
- Reflection dot with White Scar
Brown leather
Typically Blood Angels have black leather, however I think it is fun to introduce some color here. But go for the black one if you prefer that, there are plenty of good receipies here. This one is based on RookieBrushes' great tutorial here: https://paintpad.app/r/rY.
- Base in Rhinox Hide
- Glaze Mournfang Brown towards edges. Adding texture here is encouraged.
- Chunky highlight with Skrag Brown
- Mix Ushabti Bone approx 1:1 into the Skrag Brown and make a thinner highlight and some scratches.
Black gun casing
- Base in Abaddon Black
- Chunky highlight with Dark Reaper
- Edge highlight using Dawnstone
Black tubing etc.
- Base in Abaddon Black
- Chunky highlight with Eshin Grey
- Edge highlight using Dawnstone
Metals
- Base in a dark metal, such as Leadbelcher or Gunmetal Metallic
- Shade with Nuln Oil
- Chunky highlight with Ironbreaker
- Edge highlight selected parts with Stormhost Silver or Chrome Metallic
Gold
- Base in Gunmetal Metallic or Leadbelcher , or skip this step entirely.
- Base in Retributor Armour
- Wash with Reikland Fleshshade
- Add Chrome Metallic or Stormhost Silver to the Retributor Armour and highlight
Purity seals
- Base paper in Rakarth Flesh
- Base wax in Screamer Pink
- Wash paper with Seraphim Sepia
- Highlight paper with Rakarth Flesh
- Fine highlight paper with Pallid Wych Flesh
- Highlight wax with Pink Horror
- Mix Pallid Wych Flesh in the Pink Horror about 1:1 and do a fine highlight.
- Add text with a fine tip brush with Rhinox Hide
Bonus: Caucasian skin
- Base in Bugman's Glow
- Mix a little Cadian Fleshtone , about a 1:1 mix, cover most of the face with this mix, avoiding recesses.
- Mix in more Cadian Fleshtone , covering less parts than before.
- Glaze very thin Screamer Pink around where the face meets the helmet, and in recesses such around the eyes
- Finish by mixing a little Kislev Flesh in the current mix and highlighting some raised spots.
- Do the eyes by painting a thin line of Rhinox Hide in the eyes, then a small dot of White Scar on each side of the line.
Bonus: Basing
- Base in Rhinox Hide
- Drybrush Mournfang Brown
- Light drybrush Baneblade Brown
- Rocks: Dark Reaper , Thunderhawk Blue , Administratum Grey
