This is my take on the paint scheme of the Steel Brethren warband, an offshoot of the Iron Warriors legion.
The main colours are black and silver.
General Information:
My general method is to lay down all the base colours for the model, then do all the shading in the recesses before moving on to the highlights.
I don't own an airbrush, so the recipe will mainly consist of brush on paints.
Priming:
I find the metallic sprays from GW tend to be a little on the transparent side, so an initial undercoat of black helps.
- Prime the model lightly with Chaos Black
- Prime over that with Leadbelcher
Silver (Armour Trim and Panels):
- Drybrush over the model with Leadbelcher to even out the coverage
- Shade the recesses with Nuln Oil
- Drybrush upper surfaces and edges with Ironbreaker
- Add a rust effect with thinned Skrag Brown in the recesses
- Add some grime with a select layer of thinned Sotek Green in the recesses
- Layer some parts of trim with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight the edges with Stormhost Silver
Black (Details - Left Shoulder Pads, Cables, Gun Casings, Vents):
- Base with Abaddon Black
- Highlight the edges with Eshin Grey
- Add a fine highlight of Dawnstone on fine points and sharp edges
Red (Details - Cloth, Wraps, Lenses):
- Base with Mephiston Red
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Layer the middle with Evil Sunz Scarlet
- Highlight fine points and sharp edges with Fire Dragon Bright
Brown (Details - Leather Pouches):
- Base with Rhinox Hide
- Shade the recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Roughly highlight the edges with Skrag Brown
- Add a fine highlight of Ushabti Bone
Beige (Details - Horns, Teeth):
- Base with Rakarth Flesh
- Layer the upper half with Skrag Brown
- Shade over with Agrax Earthshade
