A way to paint Melta weapons, in this case that of a War Dog, so it looks aged and heat scorched.

  1. Basecoat with Warplock Bronze (I use Tin Bitz, but this is the modern equivalent)
  2. Wash with Guilliman Flesh , pulling to the tip. I left the weapon to dry with the barrel facing downwards
  3. Add Cryptek Armourshade Gloss or Wyldwood to the previous mix, along with Contrast Medium (ratio is about 2:1:1 - you just want a darker mix) and glaze towards to tip from about halfway
  4. Repeat, but only the last third, then the last quarter
  5. Add Nuln Oil Gloss or Black Legion (this needs to be thinned with medium however) and glaze just the ends and line recess the barrel section.
  6. Drybrush with Runelord Brass - gently trying to catch the edges, the barrel holes etc.
  7. Tidy edges with Runelord Brass (I find drybrushing dulls the finish).
  8. Glaze the whole barrel with a thinned Guilliman Flesh to restore the warm values as Runelord Brass can appear silver
  9. Fill vent holes with either AK Interactive Black or Black Legion as these are quite matt and contrast the shiny barrel. You can use Abaddon Black , and Lahmian Medium also helps to keep this matt
  10. Virdiris or patina tutorials can be found in my recipes, but it's a very simple watery Lupercal Green , then add Baharroth Blue and very carefully line recesses.
