If you need someone to find the halflings, this is the recipe for you.

Skin base

The iconic red skin, probably the most fun part to paint but also one of best places to experiment, it can be done using a lot of different techniques. In this recipe, Doombull Brown and Khorne Red are cornerstones.

  1. Pick a base, a good starting point imo is 1:1 mix of Doombull Brown and Khorne Red , you could also add in a bit of Rhinox Hide for some darker skin, or if you want to skip the wash step, but if you do so, keep an undarkened base mix also for later use. If you want to be more brown than red, lower the ratio of Khorne Red .
  2. Wash with Druchii Violet . However, if you added some darker colors in the previous step, then you could skip this part to not make it too dark. You can also experiment with different types of washes here, Agrax Earthshade for a more brown tone, maybe a mix of Agrax and Reikland Fleshshade .
  3. Re-apply your base mix, avoiding recesses, but covering most other areas.

From here, you can go into different types of directions by lighter reds or browns by mixing them into the base mix, e.g. some Tuskgor Fur for a red tone or Skrag Brown for a more brown tone.

Red tone

  1. Add some Tuskgor Fur into the base mix. Using this new mix, highlight the raised parts of the skin. Repeat this step (making it lighter with more of the Tuskgor Fur ) if you want to.
  2. Chunky highlight with thin pure Tuskgor Fur
  3. Do fine highlight with thin Bugman's Glow

Brown tone

  1. Add in some Skrag Brown into the base mix. Using this new mix, highlight the raised parts of the skin. Repeat this step (making it lighter with more of the Skrag Brown ) if you want to.
  2. Add some Deathclaw Brown into the previous mix, and do a thin chunky highlight.
  3. Repeat the step above and do a thin fine highlight.

Metals

  1. Base in a dark metal such as Leadbelcher or Gunmetal Metallic
  2. Cover all metals in Ratling Grime , however don't make it too thick, we still want to be able to see some of the metal underneath.
  3. Highlight edges with a bright metal, such as Chrome Metallic or Ironbreaker

Dark brown coat

  1. Base in 2:1 mix of Dryad Bark and Abaddon Black
  2. Cover most areas using Dryad Bark , but avoid recesses
  3. Chunky highlight using 1:1 mix of Dryad Bark and Gorthor Brown . Here is a good point to start adding a bit of texture if you want to, to create a rough look which fit the uruk-hai.
  4. Do a fine highlight of Gorthor Brown
  5. Maybe if it is a character or you just want to go the extra mile, then add a final edge highlight of Baneblade Brown .

Yellow inner skirt

  1. Base in Steel Legion Drab
  2. Wash using 1:1 mix of Agrax Earthshade and Lahmian Medium
  3. Chunky highlight with thin Tallarn Sand . Make sure the paint is a thin glaze-like consitency, otherwise it will be too bright.
  4. Fine highlight with Ushabti Bone

Dark leather and "hair"

  1. Base in Abaddon Black
  2. Chunky highlight with Skavenblight Dinge
  3. Edge highlight with Stormvermin Fur

Black leather belt

  1. Base in Abaddon Black
  2. Chunky highlight with Dark Reaper
  3. Edge highlight with Thunderhawk Blue
