This version of my Rohan recipe is more focused on speed. It is about cutting the right corners and spending the time where it is most effective and fun.
Prime in Hyrax Brown . This is important for speed, it lets us skip base coating the leather (and for me, the base), and can work as a natural shadow for where you miss while painting.
Green cloak and shield
- Base in Caliban Green
- Drybrush Loren Forest using a small soft round drybrush, if you can't reach somewhere (like close to the neck), then paint it with a brush.
- Shade recesses with Agrax Earthshade
- Pick out raised edges with Skarsnik Green
Leather
Before starting the leather, if you like me have Mournfang Brown on the base, then you might as well drybrush some on the back of the shield, wood, and leather that is easy to reach while you drybrush it onto the base to get some interesting texture and help guide where you should put the glazing.
- Let the Hyrax Brown be the base (if you don't have it, use Rhinox Hide, also use Rhinox to clean up if you got some green on the leather while drybrushing) then go straight to glazing Mournfang Brown towards edges. Add "texture" to the leather if you want.
- Chunky highlight with Skrag Brown
- Edge highlight with a 1:1 mix of Skrag Brown and Ushabti Bone
Skin and hair
There are some many ways to do skin, you probably already have a favorite, here is the recipe I used in the image.
- Base skin in Pallid Wych Flesh
- Wash skin with Darkoath Flesh
- Base hair in Zandri Dust
- Wash hair with Reikland Fleshshade
- Highlight hair with Ushabti Bone
Red cloth
- Base in Khorne Red
- Shade recesses with Agrax Earthshade (do this at same time as while you do it on the cloak).
- Highlight with Mephiston Red
Wood
- Slap some random light browns (e.g. Baneblade Brown and XV-88 ) on the Hyrax Brown base
- Wash it with Agrax Earthshade (do this at same time as while you do it on the cloak and red cloth)
Shield emblem
- Base in Wraithbone
- Glaze lower part with Seraphim Sepia
Metal and gold
- Base metals in a dark metal, I use Gunmetal Metallic
- Wash metal with Nuln Oil
- Base gold in Retributor Armour
- Wash gold with Reikland Fleshshade
- Sponge metal and gold with a bright metallic, I use Chrome Metallic
