- You can optionally prime this with a dark or silver spray primer - I have tested this a bunch, and I don't think it's necessary. That's because:
- Coat the entire mini in Vallejo Rust Texture Environment Effects. This stuff adheres to any material, dries rock solid, and doesn't flake off when applied straight to plastic/etc. If you feel better priming it, do so, but I really don't think it's necessary after using this product on hundreds of minis!
- Heavily drybrush the mini with Thrash Metal , followed by Heavy Metal
- That's your 'iron' sorted, but now we need to add some variation to the trim. The easiest way to do this, and imply a secondary metal, is by tinting with speed or contrast paints. I recommend Nazdreg Yellow , followed by a wash of Reikland Fleshshade
- Use Black or equiv to block out the bolter casing, joints, and one of the shoulderpads. Basecoat the other shoulderpad with Averland Sunset
- Mask a hazard stripe pattern on the yellow shoulder, then stipple Black . When dry, go back over with some Averland Sunset chipping.
- Use a dark red, like Word Bearers Red , to colour the visor.
- Due to the pitted fx from the initial rust texture, pigment powders work extremely well for basing and applying terrain dust/etc to the lower body. I like GSW Burnt Umber then a few areas of Vallejo Brown Iron Oxide, which are 'stabbed' into the base and parts of the armour with an old brush.
The base is just Dark Earth by Vallejo with a wash of Basilicanum Grey - Apply a waterslide transfer iyw, then rim with Corvus Black .
- I varnished with AK Ultra Matte.
