Priming

  1. The models were primed with Scale75 Surface Primer Sand.
  2. A zenithal was done with Scale75 Surface Primer Bone Charm from above and Hull Red from below.

Horse Skin

  1. Use thinned coats of Gore-grunta Fur on the horse flesh until you get the brown you want.
  2. Shade the musculature with Inktense Chesnut .
  3. Darken the ends of the legs with Cygor Brown , blending all the way to Black Templar at the ends.
  4. Paint the hooves with Black Templar and drybrush if they look too dark.

Horse Armor

  1. Basecoat the armor with Exhaust Manifold .
  2. Highlight the upper portions and edges with Duraluminum .
  3. Coat the entire armor with Nuln Oil . Wait for it to dry and repeat 3 times to bring the armor to a dark finish. (Four total coats)
  4. Highlight edges with Exhaust Manifold to bring back the metallic appearance.
  5. Add tiny scratches and dings with Exhaust Manifold .
  6. On the rear barding behind the cloth, basecoat the armor with Old Copper .
  7. Add a wash of Agrax Earthshade .
  8. Highlight with Pure Copper .
  9. Add a blue-green wash in between the rows of plates with something like Secret Weapon Algae.

Horse Cloth

  1. Base coat with a mix of Blue Black and Jade .
  2. Shade the undersides and folds of the cloth with Terradon Turquoise .
  3. Drybrush with Jade to highlight.

Horse Bone

  1. Over the zenithal, use Skeleton Horde .
  2. Highlight the bone with Basic Flesh and then Moonray Flesh .
  3. Use white to touch up the most upward-facing portions of bone, edges, and teeth.
  4. Use Hexwraith Flame along the mouth and eyes to give a glowing appearance.
  5. Use a dot of white and Techno Green to make glowing eyes.

Knight Cloth

  1. Thin down Kimera Violet with a glaze medium and water to get a medium glaze to tint but still show the undercoat.
  2. Darken the crevices and folds with Inktense Violet .
  3. Drybrush with Scale75 Zodiac Astral Magenta.

Knight Armor

  1. Basecoat with Exhaust Manifold .
  2. Highlight with Duraluminum on the upper-facing panels and edges.
  3. Wash with Nuln Oil and wait for it to dry. Repeat once (two total coats).
  4. Create a glaze of 50/50 Lahmian Medium and Blood Angels Red and cover all of the knight armor.
  5. Use white and a dot of Techno Green for the eyes.
  6. Paint the teeth white/bone.
  7. For the crest/arch behind the knight, use Volupus Pink to provide some variation.

Knight Lance

  1. Basecoat with Exhaust Manifold .
  2. Highlight edges and upper reaches with Duraluminum .
  3. Wash with a single coat of Nuln Oil .

Banners

  1. Make a glaze of Bloodfest Crimson and apply it over the zenithal base.
  2. Shade crevices/folds with a more pure Bloodfest Crimson .

Leather

  1. Use Snakebite Leather for a basecoat.
  2. Once dry, mix Snakebite Leather with a small amount of Blood Angels Red to make a more red leather tone and apply it over the basecoat.
  3. Use Basic Skin Tone and apply scratches and wear along the edges of the leather.

Skulls

  1. Apply Skeleton Horde over the zenithal.
  2. Drybrush Basic Skin Tone to provide some highlights.
