Collected recipes for different aspects of painting Death Guard models in their classic color scheme.
Green Armor
- Basecoat with Death Guard Green
- Glaze shadows on bottom facing areas with diluted Athonian Camoshade with some brown mixed in
- Glaze top facing areas with a 1:1 mix of Death Guard Green and Ogryn Camo
- Medium edge highlight with Ogryn Camo
- Filter the armor panels with a 1:1 mix of Plaguebearer Flesh and Contrast Medium
- Pin wash armor panels with a dark brown oil wash
- Fine edge highlight with Krieg Khaki
- Point highlight highest and sharpest areas with a 1:1 mix of Krieg Khaki and Ivory
Gun Casings
- Basecoat with German Grey
- Recess Shade with Black Templar
- Medium Highlight with Dark Sea Blue
- Fine highlight with Neutral Grey
- Point highlight with Sky Grey if desired
- Add rust/verdigris where appropriate
Bronze Trim
- Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Copper and Balthasar Gold
- Wash with Agrax Earthshade
- Medium highlight with pure Copper
- Fine highlight with Runelord Brass
Iron/Steel
- Basecoat with Gunmetal Grey
- Wash with Agrax Earthshade
- Highlight with Silver
- Glaze in Seraphim Sepia on the surfaces close to crevices and corners
Glowing Eye Lenses
- Basecoat with Dark Sea Blue
- Fill in the lens with Rakarth Flesh but leave a rim of the basecoat
- Mix in some Ivory to the Rakarth Flesh and fill in only 50% of the lens or where you want it the brightest
- Add a dot of Ivory to the lens where you want the brightest spot would be
- Add a layer of Blood Angels Red
- Finish with a glaze of the Blood Angels Red on and around the lens for an OSL effect
Red Fabric
- Basecoat with Scarlet Red
- Recess shade with Dark Sea Blue
- Medium highlight with Mephiston Red
- Fine highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet
- Selective highlight with Wild Rider Red
- Point highlight with a 1:1 mix of Wild Rider Red and Sunny Skin Tone
Mutated Flesh
- Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Leather Brown and Screamer Pink
- Layer using a 2:1 mix of the previous mix and Kislev Flesh
- Layer using a 1:1 mix of the previous mix and Kislev Flesh
- Shade with a diluted Reikland Fleshshade
- Highlight with pure Kislev Flesh
Dead Pale Flesh
- Basecoat with Rakarth Flesh
- Highlight with Kislev Flesh
- Glaze Druchii Violet on the lower areas
- Reestablish the Rakarth Flesh midtone where necessary
- Glaze Reikland Fleshshade on higher areas
Tentacles
Glazing between layers can make transitions smoother
- Basecoat with Xereus Purple
- Layer with a 2:1 mix of Xereus Purple and Magenta
- Layer with a 1:1 mix of Xereus Purple and Magenta
- Layer with pure Magenta
- Layer with a 2:1 mix of Magenta and Kislev Flesh
- Layer with a 1:1 mix of Magenta and Kislev Flesh
- Highlight with pure Kislev Flesh
Slime
Glazing between layers can make transitions smoother
- Basecoat with Warpstone Glow
- Layer with Moot Green
- Highlight with Averland Sunset
Pustules
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide
- Layer with Averland Sunset
- Highlight with a 1:1 mix of Averland Sunset and Ivory
Bone
- Basecoat with Zandri Dust
- Medium highlight with Buff
- Wash with diluted Skeleton Horde
- Fine highlight with a 1:1 mix of Zandri Dust and Buff
- Point highlight with pure Buff
- Glaze a 1:1 mix of Rhinox Hide and Skrag Brown towards the tips
Plasma Effect
- Basecoat with Fire Dragon Bright
- Drybrush Wild Rider Red over the coil ridges
- Drybrush Mephiston Red over the tops of the coils
- Drybrush Evil Sunz Scarlet on the surfaces around the plasma coils for an OSL effect
- Make an oil wash of terracotta and white and to the bottom of the coils
