A step by step guide, showing how I paint my chosen Aeldari Craftworld.

Magenta Armour

  1. Basecoat with 1:1 Khorne Red and Screamer Pink .
  2. Recess shade with 1:2 Khorne Red and Incubi Darkness .
  3. Apply chunky highlights of 2:1 Wazdakka Red and Screamer Pink .
  4. Now go over all of hte previous stage with finer highlights of roughly 1:1 Wazdakka Red and Morghast Bone . Personally, I have found I get my best results by leaning slightly more towards the Morghast Bone to really bring out the edges.
  5. Selectively highlight curves and corners with 1:2 Wazdakka Red and Screaming Skull .
  6. Mix some White into the previous paint and pick out points where light would hit.

Bone Faceplate

  1. Basecoat with Ushabti Bone .
  2. Shade the recesses with Skeleton Horde .
  3. If you need to darken any areas, run a line of Agrax Earthshade into the deepest parts.
  4. Add chunky highlights of Screaming Skull .
  5. Now add fine highlights of Pallid Wych Flesh .
  6. Finish with selective highlights of White where needed.

Black Armour

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black or another Black of your choice.
  2. Edge highlight everything with a thick line of Dark Reaper .
  3. Highlight everything again, this time with a thin line of 1:1 Dark Reaper and Grey Seer . This colour is a good place to put in some scratches too.
  4. Increase the amount of grey in the mix to about 1:2 Dark Reaper and Grey Seer . Selectively highlight upward facing edges, corners and prominent edges. Stick primarily to edges where the light would hit and always drag your brush towards the brightest point. If you added scratches previously, reinforce them with a smaller, thinner line underneath.
  5. Finally, edge add small highlights to the centre of the previous highlights and corners with Grey Seer . Try to make them very small, dots if at all possible.

Black Weapon

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black or another Black of your choice.
  2. Edge highlight everything with a thick line of Dark Reaper .
  3. Highlight everything again, this time with a thin line of Thunderhawk Blue . This colour is a good place to put in some scratches too.
  4. With Fenrisian Grey , selectively highlight upward facing edges, corners and prominent edges. Stick primarily to edges where the light would hit and always drag your brush towards the brightest point. If you added scratches previously, reinforce them with a smaller, thinner line underneath.
  5. Finally, edge add small highlights to the centre of the previous highlights and corners with Blue Horror . Try to make them very small, dots if at all possible.

Black Tubing

  1. Basecoat with Abaddon Black or another Black of your choice.
  2. Pick out ridges with Eshin Grey .
  3. Selectively highlight with Dawnstone .
  4. Add small highlights of Administratum Grey towards the apex of the curve, where the light would hit.

Green Eye Lenses

  1. Basecoat with Caliban Green .
  2. Highlight the centre part of the eye with Warpstone Glow , pulling the brush towards the nose.
  3. Highlights a smaller area, closer to the nose, using Moot Green .
  4. Mix some Ice Yellow into your Moot Green and add a specular highlight right next to the nose.

Jade Spirit Stone

  1. Basecoat with Incubi Darkness .
  2. Paint the lower lefthand side with Kabalite Green . I'd recommend coverring about two thirds of the total surface.
  3. Now repeat, coverring a smaller area with Sybarite Green .
  4. Mix a little Ice Yellow into the Sybarite Green and add a very small highlight. Place this in the very bottom-left.
  5. Finish off the gem with a specular highlight of :white on the top-right.

Cream Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Screaming Skull .
  2. Wash with Seraphim Sepia .
  3. Shade deep recesses with Mournfang Brown .
  4. Highlight with 1:1 Screaming Skull and White .
  5. Selectively highlight with White .

Gold Details

  1. Basecoat with 3:1 Vallejo Metal Color Gold and Copper .
  2. Wash with Wyldwood , thinned with four times as much Contrast Medium .
  3. Mix a little Silver RLM01 Metallic into your base mix, and apply selective highlights.
  4. Finish with very small highlights of Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Green Lens

  1. Basecoat with Caliban Green .
  2. Paint the lower left or right portion with a layer of Warpstone Glow , leaving enough room for reducing its size 2 or 3 more times.
  3. Paint a smaller area with Moot Green .
  4. Add some Ice Yellow to your Moot Green and paint an even smaller patch, working further into your chosen side.
  5. If you have enough room, paint an even smaller patch with pure Ice Yellow .
  6. On larger lenses, consider painting a small Abaddon Black patch on the exact opposite side, leaving a swathe of Caliban Green exposed.
  7. Finally, add a dot of white on the same side as the black, mirroring your brightest green/yellow highlight.

Red Sensor

  1. For this detail, I basecoated with Khorne Red then glazed/highlighted smaller and smaller with increasingly light colours. I went back and forth until it looked right. I used Evil Sunz Scarlet , Troll Slayer Orange , Ice Yellow and a finishing dot of White . Once the gold details were painted in, I separated the gem with a thin line of Khorne Red mixed with Abaddon Black .
