Dirty and grimy Tau

Base Colours

  1. White Primer (whatever brand)
  2. Quick overall drybrush with White Scar
  3. German Grey for all the mechanical parts and suites
  4. Neutral Grey for drones rims, weapons details and other spots
  5. Drybrush all the mechanical parts and suites with Neutral Grey
  6. Mephiston Red on the icons and the heads of Very Important People
  7. Caledor Sky as base for all the lenses and lights
  8. Brass Scorpion to paint all the weird “cookie” shaped details

Shades

  1. shade all the mechanical parts and suites with Black Templar
  2. shade the neutral grey parts with Black Wash
  3. Apply overall enamel wash of AMMO Brown wash for German Dark Yellow
  4. remove the excess with cotton buds dipped in white spirit

Weathering

  1. sponge on some Rhinox Hide to simulate chippings
  2. Sponge again but this time use White Scar
  3. refine with the brush if needed

Lenses

  1. Broad highlight with Teclis Blue
  2. highlight with Lothern Blue
  3. glaze all over with Guilliman Blue
  4. apply a fine dot of White Scar to simulate the shine

Basing the model

  1. prime with AKinteractive Desert sand
  2. apply a coat of Screaming Skull
  3. Spot wash with both Agrax Earthshade and Seraphim Sepia diluted with water
  4. Light dry brush of Screaming Skull
  5. paint the rim with AK interactive black primer
  6. Apply some greenery like turfs

Additional details

  1. highlight red parts with Evil Sunz Scarlet
  2. highlight white parts with White Scar
  3. highlight brass parts with Dark Aluminum
  4. highlight grey parts with pure Neutral Grey
