They're silly. They're gimmicky. They're the most fun I've had painting bases in forever. Here is how I painted my favourite Crabs!

Red Shell

  1. Basecoat of Khorne Red .
  2. Pick out everything but the recesses with Evil Sunz Scarlet .
  3. Chunky highlights with Tuskgor Fur .
  4. Fine highlights with 1:1 Tuskgor Fur and Fire Dragon Bright .
  5. Selective highlights with Fire Dragon Bright .
  6. Specular highlights with Fire Dragon Bright and Ice Yellow (or Dorn Yellow ).

If at any point you are unhappy with how a particular part looks. Consider glazing it down with the previous paint you used and highlighting again. With the size of these crabs, there are big jumps in colour in quite a small space. Don't be afraid to futz.

Eyes

  1. Paint the eye socket with Incubi Darkness .
  2. Basecoat the eyeball with Averland Sunset .
  3. Highlight with Flash Gitz Yellow .
  4. Final specular highlight of White .

Belly

  1. Basecoat with an equal parts mix of Pallid Wych Flesh , Squig Orange , Wazdakka Red and Druchii Violet .
  2. Mix more Druchii Violet into your basecoat, then glaze in some shading.
  3. For highlights, add an increasing amount of Pallid Wych Flesh into your original base mix, then build up the highlights.
  4. Finish with specular highlights of pure Pallid Wych Flesh .
