How I painted my copy of the official 'Fighter' model for the new game 1490 Doom.
Red Cloak
- Basecoat with a 1:2 mix of Wazdakka Red & Screamer Pink
- Add shading to recesses with a mix of Khorne Red & Barak-Nar Burgundy .
- Add some Abaddon Black to your Khorne Red & Barak-Nar Burgundy mix, then shade more selectively.
- Make scratchy highlights around the edge of the cloth with 1:1 Wazdakka Red & Morghast Bone .
- Now highlight again, this time with thinner highlights. I used the previous Wazdakka Red & Morghast Bone mix, with an equal amount of Ushabti Bone added to it.
- Selectively highlight with pure Ushabti Bone .
- Finially, mix some White into your Ushabti Bone (roughly 1:1, and add very small/specular highlights.
Steel
- Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
- Wash with Nuln Oil .
- Glaze some Agrax Earthshade where you want metal to look dirtier.
- Mix some Silver RLM01 Metallic into your Leadbelcher , then highlight close to the tip (on the flat sides) and edge highlight the rest.
- With pure Silver RLM01 Metallic , edge highlight the tip and place a few specular highlights on corners.
Glass Visor
- Basecoat with Thunderhawk Blue .
- Shade the bottom part of the vizor with Naggaroth Night
- Shade the recess where the visor meets with cloth with a thin line of Rhinox Hide to separate the two clearly.
- Glaze/highlight with 1:1 Thunderhawk Blue and Fenrisian Grey .
- Apply fine highlights with pure Fenrisian Grey .
- Selectively highlight with Ulthuan Grey , focusing them on upward facing edges.
- Finish with a few dots of White .
Teal Cloth
- Basecoat with a 1:1 mix of Dark Reaper & Lupercal Green .
- Add shading with by adding some black into the base colour, then running it into recesses.
- Mix a portion of the base colour 1:1 with Sons of Horus Green , then add general highlights to the cloth.
- Apply fine highlights with pure Sons of Horus Green .
- With the Sons of Horus Green mixed 1:1 Ionrach Skin , selectively highlight corners and curves.
- Finish with specular Deepkin Flesh highlights.
Cream Cloth
- Basecoat with Karak Stone .
- Thin some Zandri Dust and generously shade the cloth, almost like you would a wash.
- Shade the recesses further, but more precisely, with Steel Legion Drab .
- Mix some Rhinox Hide into your Steel Legion Drab then use small amount to shade where the cloth meets other details, harsh folds and in holes.
- Mix Karak Stone and Screaming Skull 1:1, then add fine highlights to folds and raised details.
- mix some White into the paint from the previous stage and selectively highlight.
- Finish with specular highlights of pure White (where needed).
Bandages
- Basecoat with Steel Legion Drab .
- Shade between the wrapping with thinned Rhinox Hide and a thin brush.
- Glaze raised areas with Karak Stone , dragging your brush upwards.
- Edge highlight wrappings with Ushabti Bone .
- More selectively highlight with Screaming Skull .
- Mix some :white into your Screaming Skull and highlight a little smaller.
Grey Cloth
- Basecoat with Stormvermin Fur .
- Wash with Nuln Oil .
- Edge highlight with a 1:1 mix of Stormvermin Fur and Administratum Grey .
- Finish with selective highlights of Administratum Grey and a little White .
Skin
- Basecoat with Cadian Fleshtone .
- Wash with 2:1 Reikland Fleshshade and Contrast Medium .
- Selectively highlight with Kislev Flesh .
- Finish with specular highlights of Pallid Wych Flesh .
Dark Brown Leather
- Basecoat with Rhinox Hide .
- Take some thinned Mournfang Brown and apply a heavy glaze over the tube. Work in rough lines, always pulling your brush towards the apex of the tube.
- Now with Skrag Brown , apply a chunky highlight down the most exposed part of the tube, covering less area that the previous stage.
- Mix 1:1 Skrag Brown and Ushabti Bone and repeat the above, but make it a finer highlight.
- Selectively highlight with Ushabti Bone .
- Add a little White to the Ushabti Bone and add a couple of specular highlights, where needed.
Breathing Tube
- Basecoat as Karak Stone .
- Shade with Baneblade Brown .
- Deep shade with Dryad Bark . The jump between the initial stage and this is quite big, consider a 1:1 mix of the two to bridge the gap.
- Apply a chunky highlight of Ushabti Bone . This is best applied as a heavy glaze.
- Apply smaller highlights with Screaming Skull .
- I finished of the tubes by mixing a little White into your Screaming Skull and applying a few specular highlights.
Leather Air Pouch
- basecoat with 2 parts XV-88 , 2 parts Zandri Dust and 1 part Doombull Brown .
- Soft shade with some 1:1 XV-88 and Doombull Brown , thinned with whatever medium you prefer.
- Shade the very deepest parts with 1:1 XV-88 and Rhinox Hide .
- Apply chunky highlights of 1:1 Karak Stone and Zandri Dust .

- Add a little White to the above mix, and add specular highlights.

- Basecoat with Black .
- Add chunky highlights of Stegadon Scale Green .
- Now highlight with finer lines of Thunderhawk Blue .

- Finish with specular highlights of Blue Horror .
