One of my favourite models from the "Mercenaries" set. This sculpt seemed like a good excuse to experiment with texture and a couple of new techniques, to get it closer to the artwork.

I started by priming with a red spray, you'd be nuts to not on this model. Just look at him. For those that are interested, I used Sanguine Red .

Red Cloth

  1. Basecoat with Khorne Red .
  2. Shade with 1:1 Khorne Red and Incubi Darkness .
  3. Add a little Abaddon Black to the above mix, then shade particularly deep parts, carefully.
  4. Add chunky highlights with Wazdakka Red . I applied the majority of these as scratch horizontal lines to add texture.
  5. Apply finer highlights with Squig Orange . Apply in the same way as the last step, but covering a smaller area.
  6. Selectively highlight (like above) but with 1:1 Squig Orange and Pallid Wych Flesh .
  7. Finish with very small/specular highlights of Pallid Wych Flesh .

Red Armour

  1. Basecoat with Khorne Red .
  2. Shade recesses carefully with a small amount of 1:1 Khorne Red and Abaddon Black .
  3. Glaze highlights of 1:1 Khorne Red and Mephiston Red .
  4. Highlight more selectively with Evil Sunz Scarlet .
  5. Edge highlight with Leadbelcher .
  6. Selectively edge highlight with Silver RLM01 Metallic on points and curves.

Cream Details

  1. Basecoat with Screaming Skull .
  2. Wash with 1:1 Tau Light Ochre and Dryad Bark .
  3. Separate materials with a thin line of Dryad Bark .
  4. Highlight with 1:1 Screaming Skull and :white.
  5. Finish with very small/specular White highlights.

Skin

  1. Basecoat with an equal parts mix of Cadian Fleshtone , Kislev Flesh and White .
  2. Was the skin with Reikland Fleshshade , pulling pigment away from raised areas.
  3. Shade deep recesses with Doombull Brown .
  4. Mix the basecoat 1:1 with White and selectively highlight.
  5. Finish with a few specular highlights of :white on knuckles etc.

Black Staff

  1. Basecoat with Black .
  2. Add chunky highlights of Dark Reaper .
  3. Apply fine highlights of 1:1 Dark Reaper and Administratum Grey .
  4. Selectivity hightlight with Administratum Grey .
  5. Finish with specular Grey Seer highlights.

Steel

  1. Basecoat with Leadbelcher .
  2. Wash with Nuln Oil .
  3. Highlight with Ironbreaker .
  4. Finish with small highlights of Silver RLM01 Metallic .

Gold

  1. Basecoat with Retributor Armour .
  2. Shade with Wyldwood or whatever dark brown you have on your palette..
  3. Mix the Retributor Armour 1:1 with Silver RLM01 Metallic and seelctively highlight.
  4. Finish with specular Silver RLM01 Metallic highlights on rivets.
