- Prime the entire model in Retributor Armour following by a full paint of Retributor Armour The spray is often very sleek and clean but some colors do not really attach well to it, hence the additional layer of gold paint on the spray.
- Use Eshin Grey with a nice flow on everything that has a lighter black like the undersuit, any cables, pipes and joints etc.
- Paint all leather details (belt, melee weapon handle, pistol holsters etc.) in a base coat of Mournfang Brown
- Now use Khorne Red for the cloth parts if any, Zandri Dust for all bone details (often in the trim as well as helmet). Note that the larger horns (if any) will be done differently. Finally use Leadbelcher for all metal details, like chains, grenades, teeth of chain swords and axes as well as any weapon casings.
- Take a large brush and cover the entire model with Agrax Earthshade It's not needed on the flat armour panels that will be black later on, but don't bother, it's faster to go all over the thing.
- Finally - some black for the black legionnaire! Use Abaddon Black to block in all the armour panels. For a smooth finish it can be worth to work with quite a bit of thinning down and applying two thin layers (where have I heard that before?)
- Clean up the loincloth by reapplying Khorne Red , but only on the raised surfaces, leaving it darker in the recesses.
- Similar thing now with silver parts, reapply some Leadbelcher on raised parts for example the edge of a dagger or similar surfaces
- Now over to some proper highlighting. Starting off with the Gold using Liberator Gold doing some edge highlighting with a small brush.
- Next highlight is with Mechanicus Standard Grey to highlight all the black armour parts. Finish off the most exposed parts with a finer highlight of Administratum Grey
- Now highlight the smaller details: All leather parts with Skrag Brown , the red fabric with Wazdakka Red and a fine highlight with Squig Orange
- For the eyes, either on the marine or any other demonic eyes the model might have. Basecoat with Ceramite White pay attention to do this only in the middle of the lease, leaving any darker recesses as they are. Add some Blood Angels Red to wash it down in red. Add some Yriel Yellow to highlight the center of the eye, very thinly, thinned down and carefully. Do that in two or three layers depending on you thinning down. Do the same now with Ceramite White just smaller and smaller. For bigger demonic eyes add a pupil with Abaddon Black
