An updated version of my original recipe for my new Emperor's Children army.

Battle ready

Add sand to all of the bases with PVA before undercoating.

  1. Undercoat the models with Chaos Black
  2. Airbrush all of the armour with Eshin Grey
  3. Wash the under suit with Black Templar
  4. Base coat all the weapon casings with Abaddon Black
  5. Base coat metal with Leadbelcher
  6. Base coat tassels and cloth Kantor Blue , Incubi Darkness , or Screamer Pink
  7. Base coat brass with Runelord Brass
  8. Basecoat leather with Dryad Bark
  9. Paint the bases with Mournfang Brown
  10. Paint rocks on the bases with Dawnstone

Grey armour

  1. Base coat with Eshin Grey
  2. Shade panels with washes of Abaddon Black
  3. Line panels with Nuln Oil
  4. Edge highlight with Dawnstone

Peach armour

  1. Base coat with Cadian Fleshtone
  2. Shade panels with washes of Bugman's Glow
  3. Line panels with Guilliman Flesh
  4. Edge highlight with Kislev Flesh

Under suit

  1. Base coat with Black Templar over Eshin Grey
  2. Highlight with Mechanicus Standard Grey

Leather

  1. Base coat with Dryad Bark
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Highlight with Gorthor Brown

Pipes

  1. Base coat with The Fang
  2. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Layer with The Fang
  4. Highlight with Russ Grey

Blue cloth and top knots

  1. Basecoat with Kantor Blue
  2. Wash with Drakenhof Nightshade or use a 1:1:1 mix of Kantor Blue , Abaddon Black and Lahmian Medium in the recesses
  3. Layer with Kantor Blue
  4. Layer with Caledor Sky
  5. Highlight with Lothern Blue

Depending on how fancy you are feeling you can use various mixes of Kantor Blue , Caledor Sky and Lothern Blue to get smooth transitions between layers

Blue tassels

  1. Base coat with Blue Horror
  2. Carefully wash with Gryph-charger Grey , consider thinning it a bit with Contrast Medium
  3. Layer the bottom of the tassels with watered down Baharroth Blue
  4. Highlight with Blue Horror

Purple bottles

  1. Base coat with Abaddon Black
  2. Paint the liquid with Naggaroth Night
  3. Layer towards the top of the liquid with Xereus Purple and highlight the bottle
  4. Paint the line of liquid, some bubbles, and edge highlight the bottle with Genestealer Purple

Dark armour coverings

  1. Base coat with Catachan Fleshtone
  2. Layer with Bloodreaver Flesh
  3. Highlight with Knight-questor Flesh

Light armour coverings

  1. Base coat with Rakarth Flesh
  2. Shade with Reikland Fleshshade
  3. Layer with Rakarth Flesh
  4. Highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh

Bone

  1. Base coat with Zandri Dust
  2. Wash recesses with Agrax Earthshade
  3. Layer with Ushabti Bone
  4. Highlight with Screaming Skull

Skin

  1. Basecoat with Ionrach Skin
  2. Wash all over with a 3:1 mix of Lahmian Medium and Drakenhof Nightshade . Add a bit more of this wash in to the deeper recesses once the first coat has dried
  3. Run a 1:1 mix of Lahmian Medium and Carroburg Crimson in to the eye sockets and around any scars
  4. Layer with Ionrach Skin
  5. Highlight with Deepkin Flesh

Weapon casings

  1. Base coat with Abaddon Black
  2. Edge highlight with Dark Reaper

Plasma coils

  1. Base coat with Temple Guard Blue
  2. Shade with watered down Sotek Green
  3. Deeper shade with watered down Stegadon Scale Green
  4. Layer with Temple Guard Blue
  5. Highlight with Baharroth Blue

Brass

Not 100% sure on this recipe, need to refined it a bit

  1. Base coat with Runelord Brass :
  2. Wash with watered down Drakenhof Nightshade
  3. Layer with Runelord Brass
  4. Highlight with Canoptek Alloy

Silver

  1. Base coat with Leadbelcher
  2. Wash with Nuln Oil
  3. Layer with Leadbelcher
  4. Highlight with Stormhost Silver

Bronze

  1. Base coat with Balthasar Gold

TBC...

Gold

  1. Base coat with Retributor Armour
  2. Wash with watered down Druchii Violet
  3. Later with Retributor Armour
  4. Highlight with Stormhost Silver

Lenses

  1. Base coat with Sotek Green
  2. Layer the bottom half of the eye with Temple Guard Blue
  3. Paint a small White Scar dot into the corners further from the centre of the helmet

Gems

  1. Base coat with Stegadon Scale Green
  2. Layer the bottom right side with Sotek Green
  3. Layer a smaller part of the bottom right side with Temple Guard Blue
  4. Paint a very thin line (or dot) of White Scar on the top left of the gem

Ropes

  1. Base coat with Skavenblight Dinge
  2. Paint the metal joints with Runelord Brass
  3. Wash with Agrax Earthshade
  4. Highlight with Stormvermin Fur

Basing

  1. Basecoat with Mournfang Brown
